• A good resume, try to get some connections to the gaming industry, or learn a little programming
• Much patience; don’t expect to be successful your first run through the video game test apps
• Connections in the field so you know when a play test position opens, this is a great help if you are new and you can always refer to the connections you made long after you have gained experience.
• Passion for the industry and a true drive for success. Although, to be fair, you probably already had it!

There are some professionals in the video game tester career who only had one or two of the above, but haven’t gotten as far as others who get paid to play.
