Video Game Test 101
As a subset of & # 39; game development & # 39 ;, testing is a software testing process that is used in the quality control and regulation of video games. The main purpose of the game tests is to discover and document software defects that may have missed the programming process. A game needs to be tested before launching it in the market to gain customer satisfaction and maintain a high quality gaming experience for its audience.
During the early stages of design and development, the developer was generally the one who did all the tests. A maximum of 2 testers were allowed for each game and there were also cases in which the programmers did all the tests.
Quality assurance has always been an integral part of every programming process. As video games became more sophisticated, quality assurance became a necessity and this is where game testers came "in place."
The game test usually begins as soon as the initial code is created and continues until the game comes to an end. The primary quality control team generally monitors fame from its initial submission to the establishment of a test plan. The test team generally focuses on new codes in the initial stage of game development.
Alpha test This form of game testing is done to ensure that the initial bases of the game really work. The alpha test is the initial test performed during the early stages of the game, and the procedure is usually performed by the development studio staff or people hired directly by the editors. Typically, these alpha testers are required to work in the game development studio and are asked to complete the entire course of the game until it is fully operational.
Beta Game Design Beta testing can be done at home or by other subcontractors. In special cases, it can also be done by unpaid volunteers as well as in online games where basic tests of technology and stress between servers are performed. Paid game testers are much more involved at this stage due to all the necessary details to determine how well the game is working.
Quality assurance. When a videogame reaches its final state, evaluators are an integral part of quality assurance. This is where many testers get their initial jobs and run the same levels over and over again to verify even the smallest mistakes and failures in the game.
Hardware console. The console test is usually performed on a consumer system and a special test installation is often provided for publishers and developers. The most popular tools used include "devkits" (software development kits) and debug / test kits. Programmers commonly use Devkits for lower-level game tests, and generally show higher hardware specifications and greater memory. This allows programmers to estimate the performance of a game without focusing too much on optimizations.
Test kits often have similar hardware specifications and look similar to that of a consumer unit, but with additional connectors and ports for testing.
