Being the hard core player that I am, I had already asked myself that same question. Gambling is a true passion of mine, and I wanted a way to get paid for it. Believe it or not, game developers pay a lot of money when they distribute a game only to discover later that it has major flaws. That’s where the game tester job comes in. As a game tester, you are paid to find technical issues so games can launch smoothly.

So the next big question everyone asks is where are the game test jobs?

As a player looking for a job, there are many things you can do to help get into business. Here are some key points to get started:

* Contact major gaming companies like EA and Sony to find out where they publish their work. Usually when you find your main website you will see a link to their job offers.

* Search major job boards like Monster & Careerbuilder for gaming testing positions in your area. You can search under terms such as “Game Tester”, “Quality Control”, “Quality Assurance”, “Quality Control Tester”, and “Quality Assurance Tester”, to name a few.

* If you are already a member of a gaming forum, you can also search for them or post a message to other players asking for help. Most gaming forums contain someone who is familiar with gaming testing or has done so at some point in their life and can possibly point you in the right direction. Word of mouth is always a good option.

* There are membership sites you can join that can help you find the jobs you are looking for. But be careful; always be sure to find out what you get for your investment. If the site owner doesn’t answer your questions, there is a good chance that they are not legitimate.

* Join as many video game related sites as possible that allow you to access free information along with newsletters. You can access their mailing lists and learn about possible job opportunities. Some examples of recent published game testing work were for Biohazard and Shadowrun games. Both were posted on an XBox website.

* Market yourself. Talk to as many people as you can who run the main sites related to the game. See what they know and how they can help you.

* Search, search, search. You can search using major search engines like Google, Yahoo or MSN under terms like “Game Tester”, “Game Jobs” and “Game Tester Jobs” just to name a few.

* Talk to friends or acquaintances who may know where to go to get the best gaming jobs.

Then you will see that there are options, but do not assume that it will not require any work on your part. Research can be time consuming, but you will reap the benefits. And the biggest benefit of all is that in the end you get a job that you enjoy. If you do enough research and work to make your name known, you will find it worth the effort.

You can always rely on memberships to help you find a job in the games. There are some that work quite well, but remember to find out what you get for your money and what kind of guarantees also come with that investment.

The most important thing is that you talk to as many people in the gaming industry as you can and don’t give up. The right game work will come for you.
